Every year the Indian leather industry generates a huge amount of waste: clippings, failed or rejected lots by customers and unsold stock. A part of this waste is burned in traditional ovens, generating a thick blanket of smoke that contributes to pollute the atmosphere, endangering the health of those who live nearby. Another part of the waste is thrown into more or less legal landfills, where it will continue to pollute the subsoil for decades before decomposing. Soruka aims to combat this phenomenon.
Using recycled leather in each purse or bag that is no longer useful to larger companies. The leather is given a new lease of life and you may see chalk marks or marks on the leather that make it unique and original.
Soruka bags are handmade in India, by home workers, paid above minimum wage, with upcycled leather from the major brand houses. The leather is top quality, zero waste, soft & supple, brought to you in beautiful, one-off designs – a unique & special gift for yourself or a friend!
NB: Due to the nature of the leather, there maybe natural marks and pattern cutter marks, making each unique.
